The other day, I faced a situation many of us dread – I dropped my iPhone for the final time on some bathroom tiles. Yep, you can imagine what I was doing… The back glass of my iPhone shattered, leaving me frustrated and disappointed. I didn’t want to buy a new phone, so I decided to see if I could get it fixed.
I headed to the Apple Store, only to discover that repairing the back glass would cost a whopping $800! Given that my phone was already three and a half to four years old, I figured I might as well upgrade to the iPhone 15. Determined, I walked into a store. To my disappointment, no one acknowledged me at first, so I left and went to a repair shop instead.
At the repair shop, I waited for what felt like forever – probably about five or ten minutes, which in retail is a long time. Finally, the girl there greeted me and said she’d be with me shortly. Despite the initial wait, she was quite helpful once she attended to me. She informed me that fixing my iPhone would cost only $200.

That sounded great until she mentioned that if I fixed it with them, it would no longer have the Apple logo, meaning it wouldn’t be a genuine Apple product. This blew my mind. It was still an Apple product! Just because it lacked the logo didn’t make it any less legitimate. This revelation made me think about how we often strive for perfection, trying to have thousands of followers on Instagram and social media to feel validated.
We doubt ourselves, sabotage our confidence, and fail to appreciate our worth if we don’t meet these superficial standards. This experience taught me an important lesson: you don’t have to be perfect to be valuable.
Long story short, I haven’t gotten the phone fixed yet, and I’m still walking around with a cracked phone. But it just goes to show, sometimes you don’t have to be perfect to still be doing the job right.
